McHatton, Pike and Company record books, 1857-1860.

Volumes contain the bound business papers of McHatton, Pike and Company, which concern transactions of the penitentiary. Items include invoices, warrants, receipts for cash and clothing received by discharged convicts, checks, payrolls of officers and guards, statements of articles charged on prison books, records of sales, copies of agreements, and other items related chiefly to the purchase of raw materials, particularly cotton and wool. These materials were probably used in the manufacture of cotton and woolen goods, bricks, and other products.
